Erie-Huron County Spring Alpaca Show & Herdsire Showcase PDF Print E-mail

ImageThe 3rd annual Erie-Huron County Spring Alpaca Show will take place at the Huron County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 19, with the first event to begin at 9 a.m. The show and exhibits will continue until 6 p.m.
The show provides an opportunity for people of all ages to get to know these tall, fuzzy and gentle creatures seen grazing in pastures across Ohio.  Native to the Andes Mountains in South America, alpacas produce fleece with a finish as soft as cashmere with a finer luster. It is warmer and softer than wool, but without the weight.

Mailman Joe Defazio Retires PDF Print E-mail

ImageJoe Defazio is so well liked on the East side of Huron that Chaska Beach featured him in their latest news letter. For many residents he is the only mailman they have ever known. Joe has been delivering mail on the same route since April 1977. On Friday Joe Turned 55 years old. On Saturday Joe Defazio retired. With over 32 years of service he had the time in, but had to wait until he was 55 before could retire. Defazio delivered most of the East side of Huron including Chaska, Old Homestead, Berlin Rd. Tiffin and some of Beachwood. "I walked 11 miles a day," said Defazio.

ImageThe blooming of local daffodil colorfully announce the arrival of spring. Within the next week this beloved flower should be in full splendor.
Daffodil is the common name for bulbous plants belonging to the genus Narcissus.  According to the Daffodil Data Bank (on the web) there are at least 25 species of daffodils and over 13,000 different hybrids.

City Council and Police Honor Citizen PDF Print E-mail

At Tuesday evening's City Council meeting, Mayor Marilyn Shearer presented an official City Proclamation honoring a Huron citizen for his assistance during a lengthy covert law enforcement operation.  Leaving her council dais to congratulate the recipient personally, she further stated "His participation in the community has added to the well being of Huron."
