Sandusky Police, Huron Police Harbor Patrol Receive Waterway Grants PDF Print E-mail

Money to be Used to Enforce Boating Laws, Maintain Safety on Water
State Representative Chris Redfern (D-Catawba Island) announced recently that the Sandusky Police Department and the Huron Police Harbor Patrol have each received Marine Patrol Assistance grants from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.
The Sandusky Police Department received $25,028, and the Huron Police Harbor Patrol received $16,983, to help pay for emergency response, routine patrols and new safety equipment for use on state waterways.
"We need to support the valuable work that waterway law enforcement teams do to keep these natural resources open and fun to residents and tourists alike," Rep. Redfern said. "These grants speak to the importance of enforcing the laws of the water so that everyone can enjoy these destinations."

Huron City Council Discusses Sale of Corporate Park PDF Print E-mail

City Council met Tuesday night with all members present.  Minutes from the last meeting were discussed.  Julie Dively commented that the minutes did not elaborate on the nature of statements made during the audience comment section of the last city council meeting.  Two citizens had made critical statements about the city.  The minutes only stated that they had spoken but did not mention or summarize what they had said.  After a discussion between several council members, the minutes were amended and approved with the inclusion of a summary of the statements made.
Council considered an agreement with Bowser-Morner for soil exploration services in connection with the Huron River Boat Ramp Project.  An addendum was suggested by law director Lee McDermond to change the wording of the payment schedule.  The resolution was approved including the addendum.

Mayor Marilyn Shearer Honors Volunteers PDF Print E-mail

ImageAt the March 11 meeting of Huron City Council, Mayor Marilyn Shearer held up an "Ask Me About Huron's Corporate Park" pin. She is asking all city leaders to wear the pins. She also made a proclamation honoring volunteers who had worked on a new web cam overlooking the Huron River and Boat Basin.

City Appropriates $310,000 for Capital Improvements PDF Print E-mail

In a lively session of Huron City Council, $310,000 was appropriated for a variety of City needs, including a significant upgrade of the Police Dispatch Center’s Recording System. The intent was to go Digital with a much more reliable system. Additionally, Council appropriated funds for street improvements, the Fire Department, Parks and Recreation and Police Cruiser program.
Council also heard an extensive report from Huron School Superintendent Fred Fox, on the restructuring of the Elementary Schools in the system, something the Huron Board of Education has been studying for quite some time.
