Area Sophomores To Attend Leadership Program PDF Print E-mail

Jesse Miedema and Melissa Moberg, sophomore students at Huron High School, have been selected to attend the upcoming Ohio-West Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar on May 15th - 18th, 2008 at The University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio.  They will join more than 190 other young leaders representing as many high schools from throughout western Ohio in attendance.  HOBY Leadership Seminars bring together a select group of high school sophomores to interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education and the professions to discuss present and future issues.

Looking for a yard sale diamond in the rough? Or does unloading a dust-gathering "collectible" sound more appealing? Whatever the case, EHOVE can fill the bill through the Trash to Treasure rummage sale, scheduled for June 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds benefit the EHOVE Education Development Corporation, a non-profit fund that is used for special projects for High School and Adult Education programs.

Michael A. Kimaid named Distinguished Teacher at BGSU Firelands PDF Print E-mail

BGSU Firelands honored one of its best at its 39th annual Recognition Program held Friday (April 25) in the Cedar Point Center. Dr. Michael A. Kimaid, an assistant professor of history in the Department of Natural and Social Sciences, was honored as the 2008 Distinguished Teacher.
Scholarly knowledge of the subject matter, careful organization and preparation for courses, an ability to generate enthusiasm for the field and for learning, demonstrated ability to stimulate the intellect of students so as to foster skills in critical thinking and independent analysis, ability to communicate the subject matter in a clear, effective manner, utilization of a diversity of teaching methods/techniques and sensitivity and responsiveness to students, both in and out of the class context, are among the criteria used. Two criteria are especially important: the candidate must have teaching experience at BGSU Firelands for at least two years prior to the year of the nomination and candidates must not have received the award within the past five years.

ImageThe EHOVE Police Academy class of 2008 graduated 10 members of the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Academy May 9. The ceremony was held at Mesenburg's Banquet Hall, Huron. Completion of the class is a requirement to be eligible to sit for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Certification test.
