Kalahari Resort's recent generous donation has Huronites buzzing. You
can debate the pros and cons, but the students of Huron will benefit in
many different ways. In the meantime, here's a bit of Huron Memorial
Stadium history that will put Kalahari's generosity in perspective.
Back in 1972 a group of very visionary Huron Boosters created Huron
Memorial Stadium for $200,000. If you use an internet inflation
calculator you'll see that is equal to over $1 million dollars today.
The bravest of the brave boosters 36 years ago were Dominick "Tyke"
Majoy, Jim Beach and Nate "Buddy" Ginesi. Those three individuals went
to Lee Schwab at Firelands Community Bank and convinced him to loan the
Booster Club $10,000 to get the project started according to Majoy.
They personally guaranteed the loan by signing for the cash. "Don't
you dare write a story about the Boosters without mentioning
everybody's name," Tyke Majoy warned. "Coach Tony Munafo provided the
energy and enthusiasm to get us going and so many community members
made it happen."

Future Thespians
On Friday, the St. Peter School fourth grade students, under the
direction of teacher Mrs. Dianna Miller, presented Virginia Payne
Witworth's The Magic Cloak. The budding actors and actresses performed
to a capacity audience of students and adults. The fourth grade
students had responsibilities for the props, the costuming and the
advertising while also learning their lines and their places. Some of
the students worked as members of the set crew while all of the
students in the class had a part in the actual performance.

On Friday, March 14, the Huron High School math department sponsored Pi
Day in honor of the date March 14 and its relationship to the symbol
for Pi and the number for Pi, 3.14. Mathematicians use the Greek letter
Pi, in some mathematical formulas such as the area of a circle A=Pi r
2, and the circumference of a circle C=2Pi r, just to name a few. Pi
has been known for almost 4000 years and it is a non-terminating,
non-repeating number. That means the number of digits for Pi goes on
forever.
