Hillary Carries Erie County PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 06 March 2008
It was a big night Tuesday for Hillary Clinton, not just because she won Ohio, but more importantly, because she carried Erie County, one of Ohio's bellwethers! To do that, she and the other candidates, not to mention over 24,000 Erie County voters and hundreds of poll workers, had to overcome a snow and ice storm that hit around 4 p.m. on Election Day.
The voter turnout was huge, despite the weather, especially among Erie County Democrats, as nearly 17,500 voted and gave Hillary Clinton a 9,742-7,231 margin. John McCain, who became the Republican nominee for President of the United States, carried Erie County by a better than 2-1 margin over Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
In local races on the Democratic side, in Senate District 2, Sylvia Washburn outpolled Darwitt Garrett by a 2 to 1 margin also. For Erie County Commissioner, Pat Shenigo defeated Linda Miller-Moore 7,615 to 6, 987. For Clerk of Courts, Barbara Johnson was the leading vote-getter in a three-way race with Bill Kimberlin and Kimberly Piotrowski, with Miller-Moore gaining 53% of the primary election votes.
