The Erie County 4-H Committee, Erie County 4-H Camp, Inc. and Erie County Heritage Committee will host the 28th Annual Erie County 4-H Chicken BBQ & Auction on Saturday, April 12th. The event will be held at EHOVE Career Center, Building F, located at 316 W. Mason Rd., Milan, just west of Route 250.
Chicken dinners complete with side dishes and beverages will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are available in quarter, half, and carry-out portions. Prices will be $7.50 for a half chicken dinner, $6.50 for a quarter chicken dinner, and $4.50 for a half chicken carry-out dinner. Tickets for the barbecue are available at the door.
The benefit auction will begin at 7:30 p.m., with auctioneer Gail Pickworth presiding over the action. Bidding will be lively for a variety of goods and services donated by our local friends of 4-H. Past items up for bid have included certificates for local restaurants and services, themed gift baskets, agricultural products such as feed & seed, tickets for upcoming events and nearby attractions, unique handmade items, memorabilia, food and beverages, and much, much more. No numbers are required to bid. Admission to the auction is free.
Several of our Erie County 4-H Clubs will be participating in the event, offering beverages and desserts, setting up and tearing down, and assisting with the auction. New for 2008, games and activities for younger children will be available! Many of our local clubs will be vying to win a pizza party for their club by donating gift baskets to the auction. Gardening, bird feeding, scrapbooking, movie, and gourmet food were just a few of the basket themes from last year's auction. Please support our local youth by attending the Annual 4-H Chicken BBQ & Benefit Auction.
One third of the proceeds received from the event will be used to improve programs and supplement the Erie County 4-H Program. One third of the proceeds will be used by the Erie County Heritage Committee to better their exhibits and programs. The other third will be used toward improvements at the Erie County 4-H Camp on Kelleys Island, which is utilized by 4-H and non-4-H groups from around the state.
If you have questions or would like to donate an item to the auction, feel free to contact the Erie County Extension Office at 419-627-7631.
