nino.jpgNino Majoy is an 8th grader who competed on the Jr. High wrestling team this year.  He was an SBC Champ in the 245 lb weight class and after his season was over, he continued to train for the Jr. High District Tournament.
There are a total of eight districts across Ohio, and wrestlers enter a District tournament and compete for a chance to make the State Tournament. The top six wrestlers in each weight class at each district qualify for the State Tournament so there are a total of 48 wrestlers in each weight class who make the State Tournament.  This year, the State Tournament was held at Ohio University in Athens at the Convocation Center on March 14-16. There were eight place winners at the end of the three- day tournament.
Nino wrestled at the Norwalk District where he was crowned as the Champ of the 249 lb. weight class.  He then went to the State Tournament where he won six matches and had one loss.  On his first match at State, he won by Pin, second match by Tech Fall, his third match was his only set back of the tourney where he was pinned by a wrestler from Massillon Perry.  Nino then went on to win four matches in the Consolation bracket, two by pin and two by decision.  The match he wrestled in the finals for 3rd place was against a wrestler from Cincinnati
Elder, and Nino won by decision.
For the season, Nino finished with a 33-1 record.  He is currently involved in Jr. High Track, and he continues to train and wrestle during his "off-season".  He plans to travel on weekends and wrestle in tournaments throughout the State of Ohio to prepare for his freshman year in high school wrestling.
District Sites include Norwalk, Archbishop Moeller, Brecksville, Bowling Green, Butler, East Liverpool
Ohio University, Thomas Worthington.
