The Huron Hometown News is pleased to announce the winner of its first annual Mother's Day Writing Contest. Don F. McGee of Huron submitted the winning entry - a poem penned for his 90-year-old mother Helen M. McGee. The competition was unbelievable and we want to thank everyone that participated. For your holiday's reading pleasure - Don F. McGee's:
A Loving Message to My Mother
For a time determined only by God, my Father
He sent His most precious gift, for you to look after
He entrusted my flesh and spirit to your care
With all of your love, warmth and happiness to share
I came to you
With very special needs, both great and small
God heard your prayers and answered your call
My birth was celebrated in the bright Heavens above
Our hearts filled to overflowing, with everlasting love
I came to you
You touched my soul with caring tenderness
You filled my heart with love and happiness
My spirit soared and became one with yours
My reason to be could not ask for more
I came to you
We knew our time on this planet would be short, yet
This precious time we had, we'll never forget
My deep love for you is pure and true
A gift sent from God made just for you
I came to you
Our Father will determine when we must go
But before we do, I wanted you to know
His love for us and His eternal light
Awaits us both, on some distant night
We go to Him
Your Loving Son
Don
