Huron Girl Scout Troop 860 Raises $550 For "Back To The Wild" PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 May 2008
Huron Junior Girl Scout Troop 860 has spent the past 3 years working to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn.  One of their activities was to spend a day with Mona Rutger-Animal Planet's "Hero of the Year" winner for 2006, at "Back to the Wild" in Castalia to learn about her wildlife rehabilitation program.
The girls, now sixth graders at St. Peter Catholic and McCormick Middle School, were so inspired by Mrs. Rutger that when the time came to choose their bronze award service project, they knew they wanted to help animals.
After consulting with Mrs. Rutger, the girls learned that the organization is in need of prepaid gasoline gift cards to keep their vans fueled and ready for rescue missions and program travels.
The girls held a very successful fundraising event on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at St. Peter Catholic Church thanks to the dozens of folks who wanted their car washed despite the blustery weather, bought treats for the bake sale, or made a donation after one of the Masses or at the event.  Many thanks to all who participated and helped the girls raise $550!
Troop 860 would also like to thank Dominos Pizza, Drug Mart, Mix 102.7 and St. Peter School and Church for helping to get the word out about the fundraising event!
Back to the Wild is having their Spring 2008 Open House on Sunday, May 18, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this event-there is no admission fee but donations are greatly appreciated!  There will be a garage sale, silent auction and raffles to benefit injured wildlife at the center plus tours and "behind the scenes" activities!  Back to the Wild needs donated items (no clothing please) for the garage sale and items from area merchants for the silent auction.  Donors can call Mona Rutger at 419-684-9539 to pick up items or drop them off!
Back to the Wild is located at 4504 Bardshar Road in Castalia.  Call if you have any questions.  Thank you!
