Mr. Lyle Rowe, Principal of Woodlands Elementary School.
When school lets out for the summer this year, it will mark Mr. Lyle Rowe's last day as principal of Woodlands Elementary School. After eighteen years of excellence in service to Huron's children and their families, Principal Lyle Rowe will be retiring.
"One of our fourth grade students wrote about my upcoming retirement:  'Mr. Rowe can't retire, he is like the father of our building.' I cannot think of a nicer way to be remembered," Mr. Rowe said.
Mr. Rowe obtained his undergraduate degree in Education from Clarion State University and his graduate degree in Education from Bowling Green State University.  He taught 4th through 6th grades in Sandusky City Schools for 15 years then served two years as principal of Stamm Elementary School in Fremont before coming to Huron to Woodlands.  In 1995 he was awarded Educator of the Year by the Huron Chamber of Commerce and was awarded Jaycee Boss of the Year in 1998.
Mr. Rowe should receive numerous other awards for his many other doings with our early childhood education students! He says some of his most memorable experiences were the fun and silly things he did to encourage children to read during the annual celebrations of Right to Read week: allowing students to throw pies in his face, letting them "tape Mr. Rowe to the wall" and even to shave his mustache!  He also put a chair up on the school roof to spend a day on the roof reading for all the kids to see!
His philosophy to running the building has been one of a family approach-the staff and the children create the environment as well. "Everyone has made it what it is," he said.
Asked about his feelings on retiring, he stated, "Walking through the halls...this is a big part of my life."
After a two-month mandatory leave Lyle Rowe will be returning to the Huron City Schools as a part time EMIS (Education Management Information System) Coordinator. He will be working with the school district on reporting information to the State.
He will still reside in the area in Perkins. His plans for retirement include the time he will enjoy with his family and two grandchildren.
We will miss you, Mr. Rowe!
