The following is an update for Huron residents: Huron City Tax Forms: A reminder to the residents of Huron that the Finance Department of the City of Huron is no longer able to provide assistance with the preparation of annual tax forms. Completed forms may be delivered to the department Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Although assistance in the completion of the forms was previously performed by finance staff as a courtesy, a recent legal opinion now prohibits the activity. 
 
Yard Waste/Food Scrap Program 2010: In December 2009, Huron Council accepted a two-year bid proposal from Fultz & Sons Inc. for the provision of refuse and recycling services
within the city. As in the past, the service will include optional service for the removal of yard waste materials beginning April 1. Residents utilizing the yard waste option for the recycling of food scrap and biodegradable materials, however, will be afforded the opportunity to recycle this material for the entire year.

Milan Radio Club Hosting Open House

The Thomas Edison Memorial Radio Club, NI8G, invites all radio amateurs and anyone interested in amateur radio to visit the club’s station in the Lockwood, Smith & Company General Store located in the Milan Historical Museum, 10 Edison Drive, on Feb. 6 and 7.        The station will be operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days in celebration of Thomas Edison’s birthday, which is Feb. 11, 1847.  The club will be communicating with radio amateurs throughout the United States and around the world.        For more information, contact Jack Hubbard by calling 419-706-1308 or through email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Santa to Visit Boat Basin by Fire Truck Saturday

Santa to Visit Boat Basin by Fire Truck SaturdaySanta and Mrs. Claus will arrive at Huron’s Christmas celebration this Saturday by fire truck. The celebration hosted by the Huron Parks and Recreation Deaprtment will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Huron Boat Basin. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at 4 p.m. riding on a truck from the Huron Fire Department, and escorted by the Huron Police department. The Jolly Ole’ Elf and his Mrs. Will be at the basin until 8 p.m. to meet with all the children. The celebration will feature other events as well, including: Once again, there will be a coloring and craft area where children can make and take a seasonal craft project home with them. The tradition of “Warm Hand from Young Hearts” will also be continued. Donations of gloves and mittens are encouraged and should be placed on the tree there that day. They will be donated to local families in need.

Huron Art Club Members Warm Huron

The Huron High School Art Club collected about 200 gently worn coats, hats and mittens during its Second Annual Coats for Kids collection from Nov. 1 to Dec 3. Students from the Huron High School Art Club who were instrumental in organizing the collection were: Hannah Figgins, Josh Marshall, Sam McCartney, Zach Taylor, Nicole West, Katie Zimmer and adviser Patty VanBarg.
